Leadership & Empowerment

Improving the Bonsuoku community starts with providing leadership and empowerment opportunities for the residents to take charge of their lives. Focusing on children and women, BCF provides workshops, mentorship programs, and adolescent groups relating to leadership and empowerment. We believe that change starts from within and our community can build the next generation of change makers for Bonsuoku!

FIRST ANNUAL
ADOLESCENT WEEK PROGRAM

From 11th-15th July BCF hosted our first annual Adolescent Week Program with the 2022 theme: Benefits of Education Instead of Early Pregnancy. With help from Justina, our community nurse, and Madam Isha and Madam Valeria from the local junior high school, a week long celebration was hosted focusing on the benefits of education. Adolescents from Bonsuoku were taught special lessons, were able to share what they learned over a local radio broadcast, enjoyed a movie night, and closed the week celebrating and learning the history of their community. During this program, 70 hygiene kits were distributed to mothers and adolescent girls.

CHANGE MAKERS PROJECT

We partnered with the head masters and teachers from Bonsuoku's primary and junior high schools to establish Change Makers, a group for school aged community members to come together for leadership and empowerment activities. This group provides children and adolescents with group bonding, mentorship, and educational and personal development opportunities.
